Values of the Euler and Carmichael Functions Which Are Sums of Three Squares

چکیده

Let φ denote Euler’s totient function. The frequency with which φ(n) is a perfect square has been investigated by Banks, Friedlander, Pomerance, and Shparlinski, while the frequency with which φ(n) is a sum of two squares has been studied by Banks, Luca, Saidak, and Shparlinski. Here we look at the corresponding threesquares question. We show that φ(n) is a sum of three squares precisely seveneighths of the time. We also investigate the analogous problem with φ replaced by Carmichael’s λ-function. We prove that the set of n for which λ(n) is a sum of three squares has lower density > 0 and upper density < 1.

On Two Functions Arising in the Study of the Euler and Carmichael Quotients

We investigate two arithmetic functions naturally occurring in the study of the Euler and Carmichael quotients. The functions are related to the frequency of vanishing of the Euler and Carmichael quotients. We obtain several results concerning the relations between these functions as well as their typical and extreme values.

Roughly Squarefree Values of the Euler and Carmichael Functions

Let φ denote the Euler function. In this paper, we estimate the number of positive integers n ≤ x with the property that if a prime p > y divides φ(n), then p2 ∤ φ(n). We also give similar estimates for the Carmichael function λ.

Non Uniform Rational B Spline (NURBS) Based Non-Linear Analysis of Straight Beams with Mixed Formulations

Displacement finite element models of various beam theories have been developed traditionally using conventional finite element basis functions (i.e., cubic Hermite, equi-spaced Lagrange interpolation functions, or spectral/hp Legendre functions). Various finite element models of beams differ from each other in the choice of the interpolation functions used for the transverse deflection w, tota...

Analysis of Euler-Bernoulli nanobeams: A mechanical-based solution

The accuracy and efficiency of the elements proposed by finite element method (FEM) considerably depend on the interpolating functions namely shape functions used to formulate the displacement field within the element. In the present study, novel functions, namely basic displacements functions (BDFs), are introduced and exploited for structural analysis of nanobeams using finite element method ...

Divisors of the Euler and Carmichael Functions

We study the distribution of divisors of Euler’s totient function and Carmichael’s function. In particular, we estimate how often the values of these functions have ”dense” divisors.
